What are chimeric viral vectors?

The goal of gene therapy is to correct defective genes requiring efficient gene delivery and long-term gene expression. Chimeric viral vectors incorporate the favorable properties of two or more vectors, manipulating the advantages and disadvantages of each. Although not widely used at present, combining vector systems may assist in advancing specific gene therapy applications.
